A Delicate Balance is the story of a couple whose adult daughter comes home following an unhappy marriage, whose sister is an alcoholic truth teller who lives with them, and whose best friends suddenly show up and decide to move in. Like the mythological Cassandra, the only character who can often see the truth is the alcoholic Claire, who is considered blind due to her flaws.
What's A Delicate Balance Like?
This is the story of a couple who has lived a long life and has come to the point where they are not quite sure what is left for them, and their friends who come to live with them represent their more pathetic selves, who only know how to cozy up and be frightened of the world. As for the daughter Julia, she feels just as old as her parents with her marriage on the rocks, and all she wants to do is regress to her childhood. Despite these sad elements, the play is uplifting due to its candid depiction of reality.
Is A Delicate Balance Good for Kids?
Due to adult references to alcohol, depression, and minimal violence, the show may be inappropriate for children ages 13 and under. Children under the age of 4 are not permitted in the theatre.
