Cabaret involves a cabaret performer named Sally Bowles, who meets an American writer named Cliff Bradshaw at the seedy Kit Kat Klub, presided over by the impressively risque emcee. Meanwhile, a woman named Fraulein Schneider has an ill-fated romance with an elderly Jewish fruit vendor named Herr Schultz. Sex means politics in this ominous, beautiful musical masterpiece.
What's Cabaret (2014) Like?
Cabaret is classic, contemporary Broadway at its best. It pairs a heart-wrenching story of aching romance along with an unparalleled historical tragedy: the fate of Jews in Germany during World War II. Is Cabaret (2014) Good for Kids?
The show is best suited for those over the age of 16 due to adult themes in the show.
Cabaret (2014) on Broadway Background
Willkommen. Bienvenue. Welcome! These three words famously begin the opening number of Cabaret presently being revived by the Roundabout Theatre Company at Studio 54, in a production directed by Sam Mendes and starring Alan Cumming as the emcee – both of whom were on board for the last renowned production of this same classic in 1998. This brilliant masterwork with music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb also stars Emma Stone as Sally Bowles, who replaced Michelle Williams following her departure on November 9, 2014. Stone will play the role until February 1, 2015, and Cumming will remain on as the emcee until March 29, 2015.
