This modern classic was expected to star Tony Award winners Tyne Daly and Liev Schreiber in a staggering new Roundabout production directed by Scott Ellis.
Tyne Daly Out and Amy Ryan In As Sister Aloysius
Tyne Daly exited the Broadway revival of John Patrick Shanley's Doubt, due to illness The revival cancelled its first preview, that was originally scheduled for February 2, 2024. Even with that cancellation to buy her some time to recover, Daly was still out of the show over the first weekend, with the understudy Isabel Keating stepping in as Sister Aloysius.
At was at this point the producers were finally forced to replace Daly with Ryan for good.
Show Dates Changed Due To Actor Replacement
Following Tyne Daly's illness and subsequent replacement with Amy Ryan, the first night of previews was delayed by just a day and the red-carpet opening night was moved from 2/29/2024 to 3/7/2024. The extra week at the start allowed Amy Ryan to learn the show, prior to the official opening.
Closing Date Moved
The show closing night remained the same at 4/14/2024 throughout the run, but was ultimately moved to 4/21/2024 after strong box office ticket sales.
