Eva Peron's rise to fame and power in Argentina is brought to life in this Tony Award-winning musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice.
What's Evita Like?
Though this through-sung pop opera doesn't have the strong narrative or distinctive characters that we usually expect from traditional musicals, it is blessed with many memorable songs ("Don't Cry For Me Argentina" being the most famous) and a fascinating real-life heroine. Newcomer Elena Roger is small, but she's a spitfire and she attacks Eva's songs with an appealing ferocity. As the show's narrator, Ricky Martin sings well enough, but can't find much to do with his rather thin role, which mostly just calls for him to remind the audience over and over again that Evita never did much for the peasants that she claimed to represent. The stately production looks outstanding, using captivating tango-inspired choreography to move this tale of power gained and lost to its inevitable conclusion.
Is Evita Good for Kids?
Tweens and older are most appropriate for this show. Children under the age of 4 are not permitted in the theatre.
Evita on Broadway Background

The musical Evita charts Eva Peron's rise to power in Argentina, and among its many classic Andrew Lloyd Webber / Tim Rice songs is "Don't Cry For Me Argentina".
