What's Prince of Broadway Like?
Prince of Broadway is directed by Harold Prince himself, along with co-director and choreographer Susan Stroman (Bullets over Broadway, Big Fish, The Producers). The show has had a long journey to Broadway, culminating in a world premiere in Tokyo, Japan in 2015, with a cast including Nancy Opel, Emily Skinner and Tony Yazbeck, all of whom are reprising their roles on Broadway. They are joined by Chuck Cooper, Janet Dacal, Bryonha Marie Parham, Brandon Uranowitz, and Kaley Ann Voorhees. This stupendous cast take on the momentous task of performing songs from a variety of Prince’s musicals from over the years including West Side Story, She Loves Me, Fiddler on the Roof, Follies, Fiorello!, Company, Sweeney Todd, Cabaret, The Phantom of the Opera, and Evita. Prince was an inextricable part of the heyday of Broadway throughout the second half of the twentieth century.

Prince of Broadway on Broadway Background
Harold “Hal” Prince is one of the best known theatre directors and producers of the 20th century. In the 1950s, he produced such shows on Broadway as The Pajama Game (1954), Damn Yankees (1955), New Girl in Town (1957), West Side Story (1957), and Fiorello! (1959). In 1962, he had his first Broadway directing experience with A Family Affair, and followed that with future directorial endeavors such as She Loves Me, Baker Street, It’s a Bird…It’s a Plane…It’s Superman, Cabaret, Company, Follies, and the list goes on. Harold Prince won a total of 21 Tony Awards to date, more than any one in history, including eight for directing, eight for producing the Best Musical of the year, two as Best Producer of a Musical (when that award existed), and three special awards. In 2006, he was given the Special Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement. Needless to say, Hal Prince is one of the Broadway greats, and it is only fitting that an entire Broadway show be designed in his honor.
