The Last Ship on Broadway Background
The Last Ship is a brand new musical that premiered in Chicago this summer on its way to a Broadway fall premiere. The musical is rife with gorgeous songs, some of which hark back to The Threepenny Opera, which Sting starred in on Broadway in 1989. Sting has described The Last Ship as an ode to his own life and the creative block that he has suffered over the last few years.
This musical is directed by Joe Mantello, known for his work on Wicked. It has a book by John Logan (Broadway’s Red) and Brian Yorkey (Pulitzer Prize-winning Next to Normal), along with a score by singer-songwriter Sting.
