A Chekhov-inspired, American sitcom-esque comedy play that revolves around the relationships of three middle-aged single siblings, two of whom live together, and takes place during a visit by the third, Masha, who supports them all.
What's Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike Like?
Some of the show's elements were derived from some of the original works of Anton Chekhov. This includes several character names and sibling relationships
The play's setting is a country house (in Bucks County, Pennsylvania) with a cherry orchard, a big nod to Chekhov. Other nods to Chekov include the performance of an "avant-garde" play by one of the main characters (as in The Seagull), and the themes of old vs. new generations.
Is Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike Good for Kids?
The show is riotously funny but will go right over the head of anyone under the age of 16 years old who does not understand Anton Chekov's prior plays.
